Exploring the New ESSENZA SCV12

Exploring the New LAMBORGHINI ESSENZA SCV12

Brought to you by Lamborghini Broward of Davie, FL

On July 29, 2020, world-famous Italian car manufacturer Lamborghini presented the Essenza SCV12 to the world. Developed by Lamborghini Squadra Corse, Lamborghini's motorsports group, and designed by Lamborghini Centro Stile, Lamborghini's design group, the Essenza SCV12 is a tour de force hypercar with production limited to just 40 units. The Essenza SCV12 was created for exclusive track use.

What does the Essenza SCV12 employ for a drivetrain?

It is important to note that the Lamborghini Essenza SCV12 was created for exclusive track use so most of its technology is derived from actual racing. In particular, the naturally-aspirated V12 engine is able to deliver over 830 HP with a significant power uplift from air ram effect at high speeds. The Capristo exhaust pipes are made of T309 stainless steel (close to Inconel - as used in F1 Racing) and are designed for extreme temperature applications.

The power is handled by a new X-trac sequential six-speed gearbox as a structural element within the chassis, combined with rear-wheel drive to ensure structural continuity and extreme torsional stiffness. To ensure maximum performance even the most demanding tracks, kinematic solutions inspired by racing prototypes have been adopted. This includes such details as a push-rod rear suspension installed directly on the gearbox. Meeting the pavement is specific slick Pirelli tires mounted on magnesium rims (19" front, 20" rear) and stopping power  is provided by discs and calipers specially designed by Brembo Motorsport.

Who designed the body of the Essenza SCV12?

The design of the Essenza SCV12 is the result of the creative work by Lamborghini Centro Stile, which has designed all racing cars produced by Lamborghini since Squadra Corse was established. The bodywork is formed by only three elements to enable quick replacement when necessary during pit stops. The sleek lines of the Essenza SCV12 combine the appeal of 1970s models and elements typical of Lamborghini's DNA, like the hexagonal geometry that characterizes the front headlights, and the roof airscoop and air vents that frame the steering wheel.

Do the aerodynamics borrow from existing models?

Yes, to some degree. The front hood of the Essenza SCV12 has a double air intake with a central rib, typical of the Huracán racing cars. This system separates the hot airflow coming from the radiator and directs the cold air to the airscoop located on the roof.  On the front of the vehicle is a splitter and two lateral elements. On the sides, the airflows for engine and gearbox cooling have been optimized through the use of vertical fins situated on the side sills. The aerodynamic package is completed by the large adjustable double-profile rear wing providing down draft at racing speeds. Lamborghini says the total downdraft pressure is superior to a GT3 car, with a value of 1,200 kg at 250 km/h.

Is there factory training for new owners?

Yes, there sure is. Essenza SCV12 customers will become part of an exclusive club that allows them access to the most prestigious racing courses in the world. The program includes storage service in a new hangar built in Sant'Agata Bolognese for the exclusive Essenza SCV12 club. Each car will have a personalized garage and dedicated services, including webcams to allow customers to monitor their cars 24/7 using an app. The facility also houses the "Lamborghini Squadra Corse Drivers Lab" by Tecnobody to offer athletic training programs similar to those followed by the official Lamborghini racing drivers.  The track calendar will start in 2021 with events held at numerous FIA Grade 1 circuits. Assistance will be provided by technical staff with the support of Emanuele Pirro, five-time winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
